The Role of the CMO

Polk Institute Foundation

About This Workshop

To be successful, you must…KNOW YOUR CUSTOMER AND BE CUSTOMER CENTRIC. During this workshop you will learn your customer wants by conducting primary market research also known as customer discovery interviews to prove your business concept.

Primary market research/customer discovery interviews, is a form of field research. It is new research that a business undertakes itself, usually in-person. Nowadays video technology such as Zoom is an excellent method to conduct primary market research. You conduct face-to-face interviews NOT surveys online. It involves asking open-ended questions of your target market, then using this information to prove your concept. Secondary market research is the process of using research developed by others such as census data, chamber of commerce data, trade industry data, etc.. This is important to develop the demographics and psychographics of your end-users. Your goal is to see if your research will help turn you into a profitable business.
